A Blogger's Attempt
Years ago I tried blogging, just as a way to make note of my days and anything interesting happening, but as with story-writting, it fell through the cracks as I got busier with life. More specifically life at the University of Redlands (2010-2014), followed by a brave move abroad to Wales and somehow ending up in South West London for the foreseeable future, complete with marriage and a lovely flat.
Life in Teddington... How to describe it? For the most part, it's quiet and picturesque--especially during the early morning hours on my way to work or when we've wandered out for a walk into Bushy Park in an attempt at keeping up with our 10,000 steps/day goal. Plenty of cats of all shapes and sizes, with a diverse range of personalities, most of whom love to be fussed over! I can't talk about Teddington without mentioning the beautiful High Street which is very different from anything I'm used to, filled with a variety of gorgeous shops, independent cafes & restaurants.
In a week we will be travelling to my home and native land of San Diego, CA for a much welcomed two weeks with my amazingly Mexican family. That's an entire two weeks where we won't have to struggle with the woes of attempting to cook Mexican food, simply because we will actually be able to do it! Words can't express how much I am looking forward to being able to go shopping for ingredients and not have to think "...is this an appropriate substitute?", "How will it change the taste of our food?" or have to call my mother (keeping in mind the 8 hour time difference) asking her for suggestions when there are no adequate substitutes.
Of course I look forward to seeing family, friends and spending time with my beloved pets but laying my cards out on the table, the thing we look forward to the most is the bottomless salsa with all of our meals. At the moment we are having to ration our chiles de arbol that my mother brought over from our chile trees (grown from seeds brought from my beloved Oaxaca, Mexico). No more.
7 days to go.
